Do I need to use cleaning sprays with these sponges?

Why does the sponge get smaller or wear down during use?

This is normal. Melamine foam works much like an eraser, gradually wearing away as it lifts marks and grime. Tougher cleaning jobs and heavier pressure can make it wear faster. Replace the sponge when it becomes too worn to use effectively.
